My take on the storyline... by dire_lobo 2001-10-10 10:30:07
Since humor is "a: a normal functioning bodily semifluid or fluid," I'll think I'll stick to "comedy"
IMHO all comedy has the potential to insult someone -- ie. those who don't know how to change their wallpaper, those who don't know if it's "um...my right or your right?" (two of my favorite "Greg" panels -- see the archives)

however, as webster says, it is a literary work written in a comic style or treating a comic theme 2 a : a drama of light and amusing character and typically with A HAPPY ENDING b : the genre of dramatic literature dealing with the comic or with the serious in a light or satirical manner -- compare TRAGEDY 3 : a ludicrous or farcical event or series of events.... blah blah blah...
Illiad's comedy [I won't touch his humor without gloves, mask and other protective gear -- NOT that I'm worried ;-)] routinely makes us laugh -- on occasions (like this) it makes us THINK, and if we're lucky, look at ourselves in a different light...
I'm betting that this will have a "happy ending" AND let us learn more about ourselves.... I don't feel as if the storyline "insults" veterans -- rather that it puts their sacrifices in perspective, and reminds us of the magnatude of those sacrifices... we all know (I hope) that bleeding out in Quake REALLY isn't the same as risking getting your a$$ shot off on some distant battlefield -- which makes Greg's actions ludicrous, and therefore COMEDY (but not thankfully not "humorous".... unless he ends up getting his a$$ kicked by a bunch of vets (but not the one sitting next to him -- I'm betting he sacrificed his legs, and DOES know what REAL PAIN is like, and makes Greg fell about as tall as the "dot" in pets.com) -- besides, in my experience, the ones that complain the loudest about the way vets are treated were REMF's anyway -- the others did their talking elsewhere)
as da Lobo sez -- if yer not havin' fun, yer NOT DOIN' IN RIGHT!
and yes, I routinely pi$$ off people in person as well as on the web...
