  I'm not a vet but... by Arienadean 2001-10-10 10:10:29
Actually I think my dad if he were still alive would probably laugh at this story line.

My dad was a WWII vet that nearly came back in a pine box. Instead he came back with a back full of shrapnel from a shell that went off a little too close. The shrapnel they couldn't ever remove because it was very dangerous to do so so he had to live with the souvenier.(they tried to send him home due to the injury but he refused and ran away from the hospital to rejoin his unit and he served til the end of the war) My dad also lived with horrible memories that he'd wake screaming in the night from. We'd wonder why and he'd try to not upset us but when we were older we heard some stories. I might of heard the odd one more than my siblings tho. My dad was a field surgeon. He was the one patching up the results of battle. He delt with "peices" of people. Held people trying to confort them in their last moments after being blown apart by mines.(yes some people survived for a bit tho were literally blown in half). He tried to save people and heal them. He avoided firing on people tho admitted once he did kill someone however never quite forgave himself for it.(one of those people blown in half begging him to so he OD'd them on morphine). My father was normally a very gentle good natured man. Probably not the only one out there put in a awful situation to deal with things. My dad was in maroon barret special forces and saw Normandy, etc. he had several medals as well. My grandfather served in both WWI and WWII he was a telegraphist in India in the first and a medic along side my father in WWII.

I have respect for vetrans. They lived a horror in many cases so their children wouldn't or someone elses wouldn't. They knew and saw something many of us have been lucky enough to not have to go through.

To each their own but I don't mind the current strip. I don't think Illiad ment any harm.
