Diplomatic answer help to a (l)user by Spisefisken2001-10-10 00:20:54
Perhaps you could refer the person to this.. by ChicoScience2006-11-19 12:55:59
Another explanation I came up with by Arcanum 2001-10-10 09:26:38
for clueless people who have unrealistic expectations of computer techs. (This is done from the point of view of a clueless luser.)

1. In my mind, subconsciously, I believe that computers are magic.
2. Computer techs/experts can make computers do what they (the expert) wants, when they want it, without a lot of (apparent) effort. [The clueless have never actually had to solve computer problems on their own.]
3. Therefore, computer experts can work magic.
4. People who work magic are wizards and magicians.
5. Wizards can do anything with their magic, even read minds.
6. Therefore, I (the clueless) don't have to tell the computer expert what I want. Also, because the computer expert, being a wizard, can do anything with the magical computers, he's lying to me when he says he can't do something.

I strongly suspect this is what some people think about computers and computer techs. It's perfectly logical. That is, it's perfectly logical if you have no grounding whatsoever in reality...
