There is one *wee* point that's being missed here: we don't have a draft anymore. Maybe the Brits do, but our Rangers, Seals, and Delta Force personnel are volunteers from the git-go. Unlike many Viet Nam Vets, they weren't considering a career in... podiatry then suddenly found themselves halfway around the world getting shot at by little bastards they couldn't see while their peers back home called them baby killers. I suspect that's why there was so much more shell shock among Viet vets than among their predecessors and antecedents.
We lavish our soldiers in praise and glory, and rightfully so. But if they don't want to take the risks involved, including DSS, they can find another line of work.
