You do understand the concept of a joke, right? I doubt that Illiad takes what military veterans do for granted, and I doubt that he really thinks what Tech Support geeks do is as dangerous or as stressful. It's showing the amount of crap Tech Support geeks go through by exaggerating it to the level of military veterans. He's saying that military personnel and veterans have/had it very difficult and that's why, out of all the possible choices, he chose them as the people that would exaggerate the point the farthest.
