You now have a credibility breach. In this case, "I don't know" is not an acceptable response. "We'll figure it out and get back to you tomorrow", is a barely tolerable response, depending on how long you've had to prepare. It now looks like you won't be capable of supplying their solution and the next reasonable step, for them, is to get it elsewhere.
