<frustrated hateful rant>
This sucks. Friday afternoon 'bout 4:00PM the Site Director informs me he needs 25 systems moved out of one room and into another, and 25 new systems in their place, loaded and ready to go Monday morning. Of course, this is in addition to having to go to the old temp site and pick up the remaining odds & ends life boxes of software & DOA monitors - an all evening job in itself. Also, this involves building a new load for the systems, which aren't the same as the other 350ish systems we already have. It also means hacking together a boot floppy that works with the integrated intel NICs. And burning an image of it. Saturday, all day was spent creating the load, tweaking the floppy, and burning the image. Sunday, all day was spent pulling systems & moving them, then all night moving new systems in, unpacking them, setting them up. Now it's 4:00 AM and my FRIGGING BOOT FLOPPIES AREN'T ABLE TO BROWSE THE SHARE WITH THE FRIGGING IMAGE. bleagh. So now I'm sitting on my arse waiting for a 1 gig file to copy to a share they CAN browse. (I'm too damn tired to try & figure out why the other server isn't showing up under 'a:\net view' right now...)
Of course, this in turn means editing my boot floppies. Again.
And of course, they couldn't possibly have told me they needed this done a week ago, No, let's make Mike work all weekend till ungodly hours of the night. He doesn't REALLY want to spend time with his wife & child, and he doesn't REALLY need sleep, nor proper meals, nor even a few hours to relax...
Not to mention, even if I finish quickly from here, since it looks like my file transfer will only be another 5 minutes or so, I'm STUCK here until 6:00 AM when somebody who has a front door key and a code for the alarm system comes in and lets me out. Of course, the humble IT guy who is always here shouldn't have those things, oh no...that'd be much too convenient for him.

Hmm...I thought maybe if I vented, I'd feel better. I guess I do, a little. *small smile* I just want to go home and sleep. Aw, hell, I just realized I can't even get outside to smoke now. |
