Greeks knew that the earth was round centuries before Colombus, they also had a very good approximation of its size. In fact every educated people knew that also at the same time as colombus. But what distinguished Colombus from the other is that he believed that the earth was much smaller than the other educated people.. Remember that he believed that he found another way to India when he actually rediscovered America..
