In some religions and art is a symbol of masulinity or male(umm appendage). Cup or buckles are used similarly symbology wise if I remember right. Yes its good to build strength in the wrists and it will help various conditions. Lifting weights or swimming has had benifits to people suffering from decreasing bone density, arthritis, etc. Here they actually have old people lifting weights for that reason. I too usually tried to either go with someone or go when its low volume to a gym. I find the pools, etc too echoy and it bothers me sensory wise and the sheer volume of people overwhelming. Plus add in I need glasses to see distance past about a foot infront of me clearly... But my roommate wont swim(and I love swimming actually) and he doesn't do weights anymore. So I'm out of luck as I don't really know any others offline here that would go. :/ Which is why I've considered a used home universal gym.
