In a diary only the owner see's the top level "Post new comment." It's invisible to people that visit it. They can however post below any thread you post. If you visit another persons diary(you can do this by clicking the posters name if your wondering how to do that) you will see you don't have the "Post new comment" on the main diary only on posts you are viewing and might respond to. If you wondering what to post on for a first post a suggestion is to create a general post saying something about yourself such as a intrest/hobby or to post somethings you like such as recipies, songs, links, etc. I didn't realize at first what was with the diaries(why nobody posted, etc) until my ex girlfriend told me she found out why nobody had posted in hers.
