Schrödingers Cat by Kraut2001-09-29 00:35:17
  Of course, it was just a thought experiment by bugarup2001-09-29 01:27:29
    It's about this cat... by Tars_Tarkas 2001-09-29 07:03:11
...who is in a box. Also in the box: a leathal death trap designed to kill the cat. This be triggered by an atom:
If (atom.decays==true) { cat.die();}
If (!atom.decays) { cat.live();}

Since you cannot, without looking into the box see if the cat is dead or alive and since it is impossible to determine with certainty wether or not the atom decayed, it's impossible to tell wether the cat is dead or alive.

This is only decided the moment you look into the box.

There's two interpretations to this:
1. The cat is in a zen-like state, both dead and alive, until you open the box and look, then it's state is decided.
2. The universe splits into two, generating two parallel universes, one where the cat is alive and one where it's dead.

"When a tree falls in the forest and there's no one around to see it, what color is the tree?" ;)
