Anyone who wants to retaliate immediately is an idiot.
This wasn't just a terrorist attack - it was an engraved invitation for the US to stick its dick in a woodchipper. Their whole goal in this was to incite an even worst response - preferably with weapons of mass destruction - that would not only wipe away all sympathy for the victims, but actually turn world opinion against the US.
This is the same old guerilla's trick of staging a raid, leaving a clear trail back to neutral village, and then slipping out the back while the Occupation Forces hold a zippo party. Both the Viet Cong and the Mujihadin won their respective wars mostly by repeating that simple and effective tactic for getting everyone on their side. Now they want to paly it on a world-wide scale, and they are all too likely to pull it off.
Moving too fast, and too hard, will only go against the US in the end. Which is what this is all about.
