Well actually there is least one mine I know of near here at Pitt Lake I think it was... and old abandoned gold mine tho its apprently partially flooded. Other ones up in the interior of BC are also flooded but yet others are just empty sitting(some are lost a few got re opened due to finding new veins of gold, etc and more preciese mining or something). You can get prospecter licenses here, etc and go mine... A friend of mine has one and also a mineral rites on a plot of land I think. Alot of little old mines still had gold but were sitting as the processing of it wouldn't of been worth it at the time(either not enough gold in general left, etc). My uncles and even father worked the mines when younger(Bralorne<sp> Mine in Bridge River/GoldBridge I think it was). That mines been re opened but people prior could just sort of walk in and pick up/see shavings and little peices. Some towns are gone other than foundations or the odd old abandoned building. Other towns still exist today and have tourism based on their history(try Lillooet or Barkerville if curious and every come to BC).
Mines aside we also have alot of archeolgical digs for various things(in BC and other provinces).
Yes we have a variety of junkfood... Things imported from all over the world. I do like some american junkfood... Ruffles for example I think they cook in a diffrent oil or something because I could taste the diffrence between them and the hostess/fritolay canada ones. I do like canadian chocolate vs american(if purdys ships or you find a canadian site that ships our chocolate try it... it is diffrent and I think bit more like european). I like tho things like Yipe Stripe gum and Cherry 7-up which we don't get here(least where I am). A few food items we don't get from the US then again they don't get some items we have either.
Pastries wise I like the german bakeries here and the chinese ones. They have alot of cream filled type things, etc. However my diabetic relatives have been able to eat some of the items... So it might look decedent but is still something some with restricted diets can have. Yes Tim Hortons rules lol... yum tim bits... but I thought that was also available in the US(actually I thought thats where we got them from... ie franchises moving north). Poutine is good too if you like fries, gravey, and cheese.
I do tho like some american foods (because something like even ketchup taste diffrent) and have asked family and friends to get me things when there(tho now more things are up here that once weren't like liberty orchards applets and cotlets). Or I've crossed the boarder and got a few things while visiting(the boarder is only 20-30min away and there are several crossings here). I think in the US there is a fair variety of things. Clothing wise before I found more variety least in childrens cloths... tho who knows maybe we are getting more over time here. Either way we are close to the boarder so those on the US side come here sometimes and we go there sometimes for things we can't get locally, etc.. or just to visit, etc. |
