but i seriously doubt much would have withstood the heat from that fire - i saw some say temperatures were as high as 800 C. IIRC stone/concrete will melt at sufficiently high enough tempratures (i'm thinking about the fire-bombing of dresden during WWII - also I believe similar events happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki after the atom bombs) with the kinds of forces we are talking about - i don't think it would have made much of a difference what the buildings were made from - i'm simply glad the towers did not topple sideways (as others have mentioned)
