Bin Laden has specifically stated that this isn't his doing. It would go against every fiber of his being to deny this if it is handy work. There is a better chance of him rejecting Islam than denying involvement. Of course, there is always the possibility that those attacking didn't think so many would be killed. Thye US would not react too strongly if just the buildings were damaged. However, 10,000 dead would result in the destruction of Afghanistan should he take credit.
