I agree with you on most points but . . . having travelled in other countries, Canada and the US have grown extremely complacent with regards to airport security. In the Philippines, for example, you do not enter the airport unless you have a valid ticket for a flight taking off within about three hours. As soon as you enter, you and all your possessions are x-rayed and inspected. You say goodbye to your loved ones at the door of the airport, not the gate leading to the plane. In Calgary (and Vancouver and . . .), anyone can enter the airport and just walk around. Security is nonexistant.
