You want martyrs? We have thousands of them. The ones who didn't get out of the twin towers. The heroes who went in to rescue them. The innocent passengers on the airplanes that were turned into missles.

What about you. What would you have them do? Give them a sound toungue lashing? You're worried about martyrs. There are only two ways to ensure there are not martyrs. The first is to roll over and ignore it. The second is genocide. Which would you have us do?

We have spent years negotiating and attempting to be nice to the people in the mideast. We offer our help and our charity. When this is how you are repaid, you don't respond lightly.

You must also follow through. You make an example of this one by punishing them. The next time someone does it, you make an example by punishing them. Don't bomb Libya and then let Afghanistan (for example) off scott free. If they are responsible, show them that they did't get what they want, they just got hurt!

On the other hand, treat people who haven't treated you poorly with respect and dignity. Let negotiating be your main form of handling people. If people are willing to negotiate and live up to their bargains, they can be dealt with without resorting to punative measures. As it appears, this has always been the policy of the US Government.
