...did a spoof of a 60's TV series called The Rifleman. In the spoof, the
protagonist explained away his chronic killing by proclaiming himself to
be a man of peace -- "and there ain't nothin' more peaceful than a dead man."
If you think humor inappropriate to a discussion of Truth, remember that in the
days of autocratic kings, the court jester was often the only one who could tell
unpleasant truths, and only under the guise of humor or insanity.
BTW, Lenin and Stalin ruled "through elimination of opposition."
Peace through deterrence, yes. Peace through elimination (aka genocide) is an idea
that has been around for a long time -- too long, IMHO. The Butcher of Belgrade,
"Maliciousbitch" will now have to answer for his crimes. He promoted the idea that
any non-Serbs who had the audacity to occupy sacred Serbian soil or to breathe
Serbian air were somehow inferior to the noble Serbs, and that they had to be killed
or driven out. Never mind if that Croat has been your friend and neighbor for forty years;
now he is your enemy and it is your patriotic duty to slit his throat and rape his daughter.
As I said in an earlier post, we will have "Peace on Earth" only after we have learned
how to feel (and act upon) "Goodwill to ALL mankind". The recognition of the
essential oneness of mankind, and the consequent empathy for our brothers and sisters in all
corners of the world, are the necessary prerequisites for a truly civilized world culture.
