1) The stockmarket response will be temporary, expecially if America goes to war. Our economy will recover immensely, and that will help a lot of the others. Oil prices will go down, given that whoever we attack is probably going to have a fair amount of oil which we will get control of somehow or another.
2) Asbestos is a carcinogen, that doesn't mean in WILL cause cancer. Most of the people can most likely be treated for inhalation and reduce the risks greatly. It will primarily be a risk for people outside, as that district was primarily commercial and most buildings will have filtration systems built into the heating and air conditioning.
3) Only time will tell on this one, I'm sorry. I truly hope it doesn't happen though.
4) They were alive. Whether they realized what was going to happen is another story entirely. My guess is that they figured it out, or heard enough to realize they would most likely die. The planes were filled with normal people who fell into very unfortunate circumstances.
5) The curtain can't last long; we trade too much outside our country to be able to maintain it. And part of America's identity is its diversity. It may stay up until we feel we have eliminated the terrorist threat, but I can't forsee that being more than a couple years.
As for your friend, I would advise him to stay with friends he KNOWS he can trust, ideally without letting anyone unfriendly finding out, and hide out there for a while. Exercise extreme caution while travelling. I would give that advice to ANYone who might "look muslim." What I'm hearing on the radio is beginning to worry me. |
