And nothing your country did to the terrorists would bring you back to life again.

No, but your country's actions might prevent the deaths of more innocent civilians. Or does no life other than yours matter?

The perpetuators of this horrific act, by their own actions, have dictated how this is going to play out. What options have their actions left the U.S.? Let's take a quick glance at the options:

- Inaction? Hardly - if these cowardly acts of terrorism were left unanswered, the international body of terrorist organizations would be given a clear signal that the U. S. could safely be considered a terrorism free-fire zone. Pacifistic nonresponse could trigger a bloodbath that would reduce today's casualty count to a single-digit percentage of the total.

- Nonmilitary response (a.k.a. negotiation)? Why should this even be considered a realistic option? These terrorists showed no inclination to negotiate their grievances before engaging in the violent assassination of thousands of innocent civilians without warning. Should they now approach with an eye toward negotiation, why on earth should the U.S. believe they would be negotiating in good faith?

- Military response? What else is left?

As I said earlier, it seems pretty clear (to me, anyway) that the testicularly challenged individuals who engineered this horror have, by their own actions, selected the response. The only variation of response will be the degree of response chosen (ex. one well-placed hand grenade vs. a tactical nuke).

I'm sorry if this sounds too cynical, but it's the truth.

No, it's not the truth - it's a narcissistic cop-out.
