Our local blood donation centers (Southwest US) are being overwhelmed by those who want to help -- They are asking people to CALL first and make an appointment in order to maximize their strained resources... (look under blood services in the telephone directory). Previously collected blood and plasma is being shipped from all across the country to those areas in need -- which will have an immediate impact on local supplies across the US (and I would guess Canada). Your donation may not make it to a victim on the east coast, but it is very conceivable that you will help save a life in your own community... Donating blood is a useful, life-giving way to make a contribution that will have an immediate impact. Use your energy in a positive direction. Kudos to C.Si for bringing it to our attention...
