DUH! by mekkanik_mike2001-09-11 01:14:01
  A solution by d`arcy 2001-09-11 06:02:40
I don't know if you've solved this already, but here it goes anyway: Boot from your Red Hat CD into rescue mode (type 'rescue' at the lilo prompt) and log in as root. Then mount your root linux partition into some dir under mnt like this:

# cd /mnt
# mkdir maindisk
# mount -t ext2 /dev/hdaX /mnt/maindisk (/dev/hdaX = your linux /)

chroot to it, so lilo can find its config files

# chroot /mnt/maindisk

And finally, run lilo to restore your previous boot setup

# lilo

Upon reboot from HD you should be greeted by your good old lilo prompt, so you can boot into GNU/Linux again and issue a 'dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/hdaX' (where /dev/hdaX is your Windows partition) to erradicate that last problematic bit.

Hope this helped !
