I've got a small 5 MB /boot partition [1](either /dev/hda1 or /dev/hda3;
can't remember at the moment) which is set as
the active partition and contains LILO in the bootrecord.
Stupid windoze can't touch that on install. :)

[1] reasons: older LILO with 1023 cylinder limit
and that's the way I've been doing it since 1997.
