Linux challenge! (be creative) by cian2001-07-20 03:54:33
  slackware - older by nimdokk 2006-11-19 12:55:59
i installed slackware on a similar system once - w/o CD - only problem may be the battery - with no battery - you will probably have to reset the clock every time - you can probably attach it into the network - either serially or over PCMCIA NIC. don't remember which version of slackware i used - all i ever managed to get up was the base system and a few other simple components - never bothered with X. Suggestions: create a linux boot floppy - with PCMCIA drivers and then do a network install of the base system from your current workstation. You could also directly connect the two with a serial null modem cable. an even bigger challenge woudl be to install linux onto an 8086 compaq portable computer (w/ 5 1/4" floppy drives). That's one linux project I've got in line after i get my network back up and fully running the way i want it. An older version of Slack migh conceivably do the trick. If you want more info on the version of slackware i used - post a note in my diary
