If you have some experience with Linux try SlackWare, you can (eazy?) select which parts you want installed. Otherwise try Slackware anyway, yes i know it is NOT the most simple distribution but you can controll whats installed. (yes; i like Slackware). Install only what you REALLY need (I.E. : who needs 10 texteditors?) Who needs X-windows if you have very limitted space on the disk. Or if you like Debian, try a older version (with the standart kernel compiled for a 386 or 486!).If you choose a early distribution : You need less space!x-windows will fit on disk if your luckyBUT not every new program / application will runnot every new device will have a driver!Read in Linux Gazette how to make a X-terminal out of a older pc (but you realy need a network connection!). Or you can try my favorite : OpenBSD. But the same here : select only what you need or the disk will be full in seconds! |
