Linux challenge! (be creative) by cian 2001-07-20 03:54:33
I have inherited an old Toshiba T4400 something-or-other laptop and want to install linux on it. Here is the super high tech spec:

* 486 processor
* A whopping 12MB of RAM
* A how-will-I-ever-fill-it 130M of disk space
* A floppy drive
* A PS2 port to connect the mouse
* No battery
* A postage stamp-sized 10" screen
* A big Key in the back to wind up the clockwork

I want to install linux, however it obviously won't run Debian so was looking for advice. I was hoping to get a PCMCIA network card into it so I can network it to my PC (P933 running Debian). Does anyone have any advice on how to go about doing this, what distribution I should go for and what kernel? (I heard an early version of SlackWare was good for this kind of thing...?)

I don't really care that it be portable (note the lack of battery) so I am all open to the take-it-apart-and-add-on-bits-of-household-appliances-and-old-lego approach. In fact I am an advocate of that approach, although I am confined to the garage while I do it. =)

Come on guys and girls! his is your big chance to impress us all with your level of technical brilliance and (most importantly) your imagination. This thing will run <spit>Win95</spit> and <evenBiggerSpit>Word 6.0<evenBiggerSpit> so I can't admit defeat on this one. The more inventive the solution, and the more old toasters used the better! =)
