Stupid Question by mpicklesimer2001-07-19 07:15:32

128MB per a PARTITION, but not anymore by esd 2001-07-19 20:56:43
128MB was the limit per a level of swap, and thus the limit per a partition. This number has changed to 512MB. Also, that is per a Level (priority) of swap. The level number is carried over from the mount priority in the /etc/fstab file (you'll have to look up which of the two priority numbers, because I don't remember)

As for the absolute limits: You have 3GB maximum virtual memory in 1GB physical memory map mode, 2GB in 2GB physical, and in 64GB memory map mode it is 64GB minus your memory rounded up to the nearest 4GB. (This is on x86. For other platforms you'll need to look it up in the kernel documentation, but all platforms have a fairly decent sized virtual memory map)
