I think I get the point. Although I don't know any Esperanto, I figure it must be an easy-to-learn language (it's invented, not evolved) so half-a-year should be enough to learn it. The verbal knowledge you'll get in that half a year can come in handy when you study French: Esperant and French are both Latin-like languages (AFAIK) so theuy'll have something in common. On top of that: every language you learn inproves your overall language-learning abilities (you'll see the similarities between all languages). A little analogy (don't know if you'r geek enogh to get it): The first programming language is difficult to grasp. If you learn a second language, it already becomes much easier. A third and a fourth language are even more easier. After a few languages, you get the overall idea, and can learn any language within, say, a day or so.
