Uses for AOL CDs thread by IByte2001-05-20 07:30:52
  AOL CD Games ... by Yah-right 2001-05-22 23:33:21
We play a version of a game that I believe originated in Mexico where it is played with a ball with a hole in it on one end of a string and a pencil-like stick on the other. Holding the pencil thingy you swing the string out and bounce the ball into the air and then try to impale it with the pencil. Sort of a coordintion test. So the AOL-CD game is a ball-point pen and a CD and two opponents. You frisbee the CD gently at the other guy who has the pen, and he tries to poke the pen thru the airborne CD.

Now amazingly enough this is quite doable, as long as the players co-operate *smile*. I have made a "hole-in-one" on my first try at least twice. We usually played it at two desks facing each other with a half-height divider to toss the CD over. It looks very impressive but a little practice and you'll be zinging 'em right on that pen!!

The second game is a lot more competitive - basically frisbee with CDs. The bummer is they often roll behind and under desks when you miss ... which is often because like playing catch with a baseball you soon get bored and start trying more exotic throws (spinning vertical instead of horizontal ... whizzing at barely sub-sonic speeds ... bouncing off the ceiling in transit ... etc). Also they do tend to break often in this more vigorous game, which means AOLs habit of sending so many of them actually works in your favor. We were always sad to see our AOL frisbees "die" in action.

PS - use a little caution frisbeeing them. They are pretty sharp edged, and are glass after all. I nearly took someone's eye out with one once (unintentionally I assure you!!).
