| well, hope you dont mind if I throw in my 2 cents...
yes...undelete on a Unix/Linux machine would be great for two reasons
1) is there...in case you need it!
2) In one point I agree with Miko...the excuse of the open source community "it cant be done" or "it does not work" is really ashaming. Aye, I am new to that community, but it does ashame me, if an open source "product" (in a non-commercial meaning of course) just "can't do" something...but has thousands of people programing it.
it is just a thing of "we together can do it"...I guess.
3) I havent made up my opinion of Linux on the desktop...at least not yet...but the thought of an microsoft free enviroment sounds really good (for what reason o'ever), so the open source community and programmers need to match the needs of the costumers to reach that goal.
Going towards users with open arms is not necessarily bad!
my points against it...
1) well, as etherwolf said, I would rarely use it myself...and I make regular backups of my data...in case I loose it...
and the problem of harddisk space shouldnt really matter these days...
So...deleting a file SHOULD be made after THINKING.
2) I must admit that I used Win 95/98/NT long time and I got "lazy" in thinking like a system works...I just took the things how they are...with all the crahes and with all the things which were comfortable (such as undelete).
So...in my eyes most computer users cannot really handle a computer in a real meaning...they just see the nice grafics and that is it.
And Linux/Unix has an oppurtunity (along loads of other), to make/get a Linux/Unix-community that is really aware what they are doing......
I hope my english was good enough...:-)
thanks
