Question of the Day! by kickstart2001-02-09 00:01:04
  Atari 800 by ntrulz 2001-02-09 03:00:55
OK, Atari 800 with i think 16k of ram...no no no. 48 k of ram (I upgraded). I remember the RAM "Chips" were the size of PCI cards. I used my TV as the monitor. 14" Hitachi old turn the dial to channel 3 TV's. Originally I bought the thing with nothing but basic. No drives no thing. I remember putting in 60 lines of basic code (Starting with 10 REM Hello, then 20 FOR A=1 to...) to get a stupid texted annimated guy doing jumping jacks and LOVED IT. By the way, my cousin had an Atari 400 and we used to do the same thing with him except, the 400 had a touchpad styled keyboard and BOY WAS THAT A PAIN IN THE ASS. Eventually I promoted myself to a cassette tape storage unit. That thing sucked. 30 minutes to load a game... Didn't work half the time. And all you heard was a long tone sharp tone while the player was loading. Then finally!!!! a Disk Drive. 5 1/4" floopy disk drive. WOW!!!!! 707 sectors per disk. Single Sided/Single Density. Notch the side of the disc to be able to utilize the other side. The ATARI-1050. That thing ruled!!!! Getting all stupid about hardsware, like I do today (Dual PIII 1ghz pc). A happy drive. What's a happy drive you say??? Its a $150 addition to the 1050 that made it 5 times as fast, upgraded too double density on the floppy, and copy any game out there. It was the PIRATE's tool. Ultima 1/2, Lode Runner, Megalomania, that big ass 2 button ball/bat joystick. Microleague baseball....What a flucking great time that was... As I digress....... :)
