Question of the Day! by kickstart2001-02-09 00:01:04
  SC/MP by nachteule 2001-02-09 01:06:56

Next evolution-step expanded RAM to 4kB (ap. 250$). Display was 6 digit 7 segment display to view 32bit address and 16bit data values, a hex-keyboard was used for input. A monitor program gave help for writing the first assembler programs, without havin an assembler of cause, so all address calculations for branching and so on, had to be done on paper. It had a cassette recorder interface and later there was even some software on records. Last step included 20kB RAM and 4kB ROM, an ASCII keyboard, CRT interface (16lines / 25chars) and I overclocked the CPU to 2MHz :) Tried to get a used teletyper, but didn't find one so I got a used 7 dot matrix printer. Also got a used display and a 4kB BASIC-interpreter. Total costs were about 1.200$. On that thing I programmed an inventory control system and an account system('Lohnabrechnung'?) I still have it, and I will for sure reactivate it one day. BTW I have build it all by parts, only the printed circuit boards were ready and so I had to do about 2000 solderings. The basic development was done by the electronics-magazine 'elector'. They did a good job and are responsible for the virus I was never able to defeat since these good old days, but I certainly never tried :))
