| >I've been quite busy doing things like falling down a flight of stairs and bruising my bum so bad I can't sit down.
ouch! my sympathies.
>While I am not for execution, I am for the severe punishment of murderers.
as am i. but i am also for the just treatment of nonmurderers (is that a word?), and that, for me, tends to take precedence.
>Of course, the number of innocents executed is not 0, and neither is number of guilty people set free. Nothing is 100%. Nobody should die of the flu, but they do. You should be able to walk down the street at night without getting mugged, but you still might be robbed.
and i might be murdered, too. but i'm not about to advocate death for the person the police catch. policepersons aren't bright. i have had dealings with several. did you know you need but an high school education to be on a police force?
>I should be able to walk down a flight of stairs without ice being on the top step, but it didn't happen that way.
well, we could blame that on your lack of coordination ;-).
>Murderers will murder. Is letting a serial killer go to kill again any better than what you accuse the government of?
please elaborate: letting a serial killer go how? if s/he is not convicted? letting him/her live in prison?
>Dissidents that make a lot of noise are the only ones the government needs to silence. The government has no reason to kill the average Ed.
revolution _comes_ from the average ed (probably not me, some intelligent ed). and making a lot of noise is not restricted to the national media. a lot of noise can be made on some stupid internet message board, it is just the spread of the message which makes it "dangerous." granted, the larger, the audience, the more likely the message is to catch hold, but the problem is that the depth of the message is lost by the width of the media. if i am unclear, i will elaborate, just ask.
>They have many more reasons to keep you alive (albeit most of them have $ written on them).
a good point, and probably dead on.
>That said, we should concentrate on governments that kill other countries' innocent citizens....Like the US killing of innocent women and children in Iraq. Not every Iraqi is Saddam.
agreed. but where does hypocrisy fall? should we wait until our own rights record is clean? or do we need to clean all at the same time? i guess the "right" choice is clear, but we seem to be exercising the first option.
that's enough for this post. |
