*clubs mikef with his SG-1* BAKA YAROU! Unlike banner ads, SPAM is a serious problem because it taxes the e-mail servers and sucks up bandwidth on the net in general. Banner ads are normally hosted on the system that's sending you the web site, or else on a dedicated ad server that the ADVERTISING company pays for. As a result, the advertising company bears the full brunt of the costs of bringing you that ad, whereas with spam, all they have to do is send out e-mail ... and YOU pay for it because they don't pay a dime against the load they generate on other people's servers. The fact that they also are absolutely devious, using forged headers and hijacking servers, doesn't help : SPAM is, by and large, a criminal enterprise. Banner ads are legal and a "proper" means of advertising on the net. :-)
