Democracy vs. Republic by Opaque 2000-11-09 11:05:38
Don't hate me for correcting, I just don't want inaccuracies floating around. Technically, the US is a Republic, often called a representative democracy. The first real democracy was Greece, but that's because it was a direct democracy. Those who voted, voted themselves, not through appointed officials. In truth, the first republic wasn't the US either. It was the Roman Republic with its senators.
