I don't know whether Fett was actually employed to protect Jabba, or just liked to hang out around Jabbas palace when not working, but if he was being employed by Jabba as a bodyguard, I'd say that he definitely botched the job. I don't really think Jabba was paying him as a bodyguard. Actually though, Luke never really did anything to Jabba. It was Jabba's foolish behavior with women that got him killed.
