Like leaving an empty cigarette package in your coat pocket. What were his options at that point? A) Ignore it. B) Inform her mother. C) Inform her, but not her mother. I think he made the right choice in going for option C. Otherwise he'd probably only be more and more irritated whenever she went on one of those "I'm holier than thou" moods, which isn't a healthy thing, while informing her mother would put her into an unnecessary amount of trouble. Besides, there's nothing wrong with showing the pot that she's indeed just as black as the kettle.
